CHAPTER VII: DEPARTMENT OF FINANCIAL AND PROFESSIONAL REGULATION SUBCHAPTER b: PROFESSIONS AND OCCUPATIONS PART 1160 ILLINOIS ATHLETIC TRAINERS PRACTICE ACT SECTION 1160.31 APPROVED PROGRAMS
Section 1160.31 Approved Programs
a) In determining whether a program shall be approved, the Division shall take into consideration, but not be bound by, accreditation or approval by the Joint Review Committee on Athletic Training of the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs or its successor entity.
b) The Division has determined that all athletic training programs accredited or approved by the Joint Review Committee on Athletic Training of the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs as of January 1, 2006 meet the minimum criteria set forth in this Section and are, therefore, approved.
c) The Division, upon recommendation of the Illinois Board of Athletic Trainers (the Board), may approve athletic training programs that are not accredited or approved by the Joint Review Committee on Athletic Training of the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs, provided the institution:
1) Is legally recognized and authorized by the jurisdiction in which it is located to confer a baccalaureate degree or master's degree;
2) Has a faculty which comprises a sufficient number of full-time instructors to make certain that the educational obligations to the student are fulfilled. The faculty must have demonstrated competence as evidenced by appropriate degrees in their area of teaching from professional colleges or institutions;
3) Has a designated program director;
4) Has a curriculum that covers the domains of athletic training as stated in the Role Delineation Study, 5th Edition, published by the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer, 4223 S. 143rd Circle, Omaha NE 68137, 2006 (this incorporation includes no later amendments or editions), or its successor agency, and provides evidence of completion of the clinical competencies established by the Joint Review Committee on Athletic Training of the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs or its successor agency.
d) The Division or Board may require additional information in order to evaluate the program.
e) Programs evaluated under Section 1160.31(c) must be approved on a case-by-case basis for each licensure application.
