SECTION 350.3980 FIRE ALARM AND DETECTION SYSTEM


 

Section 350.3980  Fire Alarm and Detection System

 

a)         An approved automatic smoke detection system shall be installed on each floor level. Such system shall be installed in accordance with NFPA 101, Section 6-3 of the 1976 edition of the Life Safety Code, and with NFPA Standard 72, 1975 edition.  The smoke detectors shall be installed in all rooms and corridors except toilets and closets.  In no case shall smoke detectors be spaced further apart than 30 feet on center, or more than 15 feet from any wall.  The automatic smoke detection system shall be electrically interconnected to the fire alarm system.  Facilities of eight beds or less will be required to have this automatic smoke detection system.  However, this automatic smoke detection system will not have to be electrically connected to the fire alarm system in accordance with this Section, if the facility has been inspected by the Office of the State Fire Marshal and found not to need such electrical connection to the fire alarm system, as evidenced by a written report to the Department from the Office of the State Fire Marshal to that effect.  (A, B)

 

b)         The fire alarm system shall automatically transmit the alarm to any available municipal fire department by direct private line or through any approved central station.  Facilities of eight beds or less will not be required to have this automatic fire alarm system in accordance with this Section, if the facility has been inspected by the Office of the State Fire Marshal and found not to need such fire alarm system, as evidenced by a written report to the Department from the Office of the State Fire Marshal to that effect.  (A, B)
