Section 490.790  Autologous Blood and Blood Components

Blood or blood components for autologous use shall meet all requirements established under Subpart G of this Part for blood for transfusion purposes, except that a blood bank may provide blood for autologous use when the blood or blood product is positive for hepatitis B surface antigen or syphillis only upon the written, signed and dated request of the patient's physician who is licensed to practice medicine in all of its branches.
