Section 426.70  Side Reflector Requirements

Notwithstanding the performance requirements set forth in Section 426.50, dated January 27, 1974, a side reflector, or reflective material, affixed to the sides of a bicycle tire or bicycle rim for the purpose of complying with the Illinois Vehicle Code shall meet the requirements for retroreflective material set forth in Paragraphs (1), (2), (3), and (4) of Section 1512.16(h), Part 1512, Subchapter C, Chapter II "Consumer Product Safety Commission" in Title 16 of the Code of Federal Regulations (16 CFR 1512.16) and shall meet the color requirements of Section 11-507 of the Illinois Vehicle Code, as amended (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1981, ch. 95 1/2).  The terms "tire", or "inflated tire", and "sidewall" used in the above-referenced paragraphs of the Code of Federal Regulations shall be construed to mean "rim" and "side of rim" when the reflector, or reflective material, is affixed to a rim.
