SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
820 ILCS 320/3

    Amends the Public Safety Employee Benefits Act. Provides that "catastrophic injury" means an injury, the direct and proximate consequences of which permanently prevent an individual from performing any gainful work. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning public employee benefits.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Public Safety Employee Benefits Act is
5amended by changing Section 3 as follows:
 
6    (820 ILCS 320/3)
7    Sec. 3. Definition. For the purposes of this Act: ,
8    "Catastrophic injury" means an injury, the direct and
9proximate consequences of which permanently prevent an
10individual from performing any gainful work.
11    "Firefighter" the term "firefighter" includes, without
12limitation, a licensed emergency medical technician (EMT) who
13is a sworn member of a public fire department.

15    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
16becoming law.
