HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, United States House Resolution 2574, Building a
3Health Care Workforce for the Future Act, is currently before
4the 115th U.S. Congress; and
 
5    WHEREAS, U.S. H.R.2574 amends the Public Health Service Act
6to require the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to
7award matching grants to enable states to implement scholarship
8programs to ensure an adequate supply of health professionals;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, Under U.S. H.R.2574, scholarships must cover
11tuition and educational expenses and provide a cost-of-living
12stipend; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Scholarship recipients must agree to serve as
14providers in shortage areas in the state for one year for each
15year they receive the scholarship; and
 
16    WHEREAS, U.S. H.R.2574 allows HHS to award grants to assist
17medical schools in developing and strengthening primary care
18mentorship programs and cultivating leaders in primary care
19among its students; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Numerous areas around the State and the country

1are experiencing severe shortages of health care
2professionals, making it difficult for many citizens to receive
3adequate medical care; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
5HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE SENATE
6CONCURRING HEREIN, that we urge Congress to pass United States
7House Resolution 2574 to help insure an adequate number of
8health care professionals in all areas; and be it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
10delivered to President Donald Trump, U.S. Senate Majority
11Leader Mitch McConnell, U.S. Senate Minority Leader Chuck
12Schumer, U.S. Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, U.S. House of
13Representatives Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, and all members
14of the Illinois Congressional Delegation.
