HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, On March 23, 2007, Firefighter William F. "Billy"
3Grant gave his life in the line of duty with the Chicago Fire
4Department; and
 
5    WHEREAS, William Grant joined the Chicago Fire Department
6in 1986 at the age of 23; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Over a 20-year career, William Grant earned the
8respect and admiration of his fellow firefighters and his
9brothers on Truck 51/Engine 84; and
 
10    WHEREAS, William Grant has been recognized for his bravery
11by the Chicago City Council, the Chicago Fire Department, and
12numerous community organizations; and
 
13    WHEREAS, William Grant holds a patent with the U.S. Patent
14Office for one of his lifesaving ideas; and
 
15    WHEREAS, William Grant was the beloved husband of Sharon
16(Nair) Grant; the devoted father of Kristin, Caroline, and
17Daniel; the cherished son of John F. (Ret. CFD) and Elizabeth
18(Faulkner) Grant; the dear son-in-law of Vel and JoAnn Nair;
19the loving brother of Rosemary Grant Higgins, Gayle (John)
20Marschinke, John (Jan), Kevin CFD (Carole), Tim (Mary), Lisa

1(Kevin CPD) Bahr, and Thomas Grant; the fond brother-in-law of
2Jim Higgins (Ret CPD Lt.); and the dearest nephew of Mary (the
3late Carl) Rosenbaum, Frances (Rick) Counts, and the late
4Cecelia Tilsey; and
 
5    WHEREAS, On Saturday, March 25, 2017, the City of Chicago
6will name South Hoyne Avenue at West 90th Street as "Honorary
7FF Billy Grant Way"; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
9HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
10recognize the life of Firefighter William F. "Billy" Grant; and
11be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of William Grant as a symbol of our
14respect and esteem.
