AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 923

2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 923, on page 2, by
3replacing lines 4 through 10 with the following:
4    "(a) Except as otherwise provided in subsection (b), on and
5after the effective date of this amendatory Act of the 100th
6General Assembly, it is unlawful for a person to hold an office
7in a unit of local government with a salary, a stipend, or
8benefits in a combined amount that exceeds $10,000 and also
9hold the office of county board member, township supervisor,
10township trustee, township assessor, or township clerk
11simultaneously.
12    (b) A person who simultaneously holds offices on the
13effective date of this amendatory Act of the 100th General
14Assembly may complete his or her terms of office
15notwithstanding the prohibition in subsection (a). It is lawful
16for any person to hold the office of county board member and
17township supervisor, and in counties of less than 100,000
18population the office of county board member and township

1trustee, simultaneously. It is lawful for any person to hold
2the office of county board member and the office of township
3assessor or town clerk, simultaneously, in counties of less
4than 300,000 population."; and
 
5on page 2, line 20, after the period, by inserting "All actions
6of persons holding office for which simultaneous tenure is
7prohibited by this Act but who are permitted to complete their
8current terms of office under Section 2 of this Act are hereby
9validated."; and
 
10on page 2, line 21, by replacing "in in" with "in"; and
 
11on page 2, line 23, after "Assembly", by inserting "or after
12the completion of the current terms of office for persons
13holding office for which simultaneous tenure is prohibited
14under Section 2 of this Act, as applicable,".
