SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 15

(As Amended by Senate Amendment No. 1)

 
3    WHEREAS, The State of Illinois recognizes the need for
4keeping Illinois waterways clean; whether it is a large or
5small body of water, whether rural, urban, or suburban, having
6clean waterways benefits public safety, public recreation, the
7economy, and the historical character of Illinois; and
 
8    WHEREAS, The third Saturday of September is observed
9globally as "International Coastal Cleanup Day", coordinated
10by the Ocean Conservancy and promoted by various like-minded
11Illinois partner organizations; and
 
12    WHEREAS, The coalition of Illinois Global Scholar
13stakeholders acts for the benefit of Illinois students and
14works to promote Public Act 099-0780; it partners with
15organizations to ensure the protection, restoration, and
16health of Illinois waterways; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Service learning promotes effective student
18growth opportunities; a statewide coordinated day of action
19facilitates active citizen engagement, particularly focusing
20on active student engagement in learning and effective
21environmental improvement through trash collection, data
22collection, and data analysis; and

1    WHEREAS, To coordinate with the International Coastal
2Cleanup Day effort, partner organizations and schools across
3Illinois will facilitate the opportunity for Illinois student
4participant groups to partner with other student participant
5groups in different countries, providing Illinois students
6with the opportunity to communicate and collaborate globally,
7discussing and sharing their efforts and findings; therefore,
8be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
11CONCURRING HEREIN, that we declare September 10-16, 2017 as
12"Illinois Waterway Cleanup Week" in the State of Illinois.
