SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of John R. Schweighart of Villa Grove, who
4passed away on February 21, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Schweighart was born to Charles and Ida
6(Mammoser) Schweighart on February 3, 1932 and raised on a farm
7west of Pesotum; he graduated from Tolono High School, where he
8was a multi-sport athlete, and married Ruth E. Schumacher at
9St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pesotum on May 3, 1952; and
 
10    WHEREAS, John Schweighart farmed his entire career; he and
11his wife resided on a farm west of Pesotum until 1958 when they
12moved to a farm southeast of Camargo and farmed there until
13their retirement in 1994 after bringing in 52 harvests; and
 
14    WHEREAS, John Schweighart served Sacred Heart Church in
15many capacities, including as a Trustee; he was a member of the
16Villa Grove Rotary, the Knights of Columbus, and the Tri City
17Country Club; he was a member of the Villa Grove School Board
18for nine years, six as President; he was on the Villa Grove
19Farmer's Elevator Board for 12 years, nine as President; he
20served on the board of directors of the First National Bank,
21the Villa Grove State Bank, and the Villa Grove State Bank
22Holding Company, beginning in 1977, retiring in 2015; and

1    WHEREAS, John Schweighart played fast-pitch softball in
2his youth, competing at the State level and playing on teams in
3Champaign, Douglas, and Macon counties; he once struck out 22
4batters in a 12-inning game; he also coached Little League
5Baseball and fast-pitch softball; he was an accomplished bridge
6player and enjoyed sharing his knowledge of the game with
7others; a recent honor was being inducted as an honorary member
8of the Villa Grove Alumni Hall of Fame; and
 
9    WHEREAS, John Schweighart was preceded in death by his
10parents; his stepmother, Clara Schweighart; and his siblings,
11Mildred Kleiss, Bernard Schweighart, and Chuck Schweighart;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, John Schweighart is survived by his wife, Ruth;
14his children, Roger (Karen) Schweighart, Peggy (Bill) Mayer,
15and Ken (Beneta) Schweighart; his grandchildren, John (Amber)
16Schweighart, Matthew (Jacque) Schweighart, Michelle Mayer,
17Greg (Jodi) Schweighart, Eric (Ashley) Schweighart, and Katie
18(Steve) Peternell; his great-grandchildren, Ella, Will,
19Caroline, Andrew, Josie, Luke, Henry, and Isabelle; his
20siblings, Bill (Phyllis) Schweighart, and Bernice Wilhelm; his
21sister-in-law, Shirley Schweighart; and many nieces and
22nephews; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
3John R. Schweighart, and extend our sincere condolences to his
4family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
5further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to the family of John Schweighart as an expression of
8our deepest sympathy.
