SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Harold L. Jensen M.D. of Frankfort, who
4passed away on May 22, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. Jensen was born in Pillager, Minnesota; he
6served in the United States Army from 1944 to 1948, achieving
7the rank of second lieutenant; his passion for medicine began
8one night while a child living at a boarding house, holding a
9mason jar of leeches to assist a physician making a house call
10for a patient with high blood pressure; he earned his
11undergraduate degree in clinical psychology from the
12University of Illinois at Urbana-Campaign and his medical
13degree at the University of Illinois at Chicago; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Dr. Jensen cared for countless south suburban
15patients since completing his residency in internal medicine at
16Illinois Central Hospital in 1957; he was a longtime medical
17staff member at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey, where he
18also served as the hospital's vice president of medical
19affairs, as chair of the Department of Medicine, and as medical
20staff president; he was the voice of the medical staff of Hazel
21Crest's South Suburban Hospital, now part of the Advocate
22system; and

1    WHEREAS, In 1991, Dr. Jensen was elected ISMIE Mutual
2Insurance Company's third chairman; he steered the company
3through difficult market conditions in the 1990s and early
42000s, launched the industry-leading Managing Risk program in
52004, and fostered ISMIE's current national expansion; he
6pioneered innovative risk management education to improve
7patient safety and protect physicians from medical liability;
8he advocated tirelessly for legal fairness and balance in
9Illinois' courtrooms; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Dr. Jensen was a member and leader of the Illinois
11State Medical Society; he served as Illinois State Medical
12Society chairman from 1988 to 1990; prior to that, he was
13president of the Chicago Medical Society from 1985 from 1986;
14and
 
15    WHEREAS, Dr. Jensen was a voracious reader, enjoyed golf,
16loved animals, and was an expert woodcrafter; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Dr. Jensen is survived by his wife, Sandra; his
18children, Eric Jensen (Elizabeth), Kris Ann Bahl (Ken), and
19Beth Susan Montblanc (Patrick); six grandchildren; and one
20great-grandchild; therefore, be it
 
21    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
22ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of

1Harold L. Jensen M.D., and extend our sincere condolences to
2his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
3further
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5presented to the family of Dr. Jensen as an expression of our
6deepest sympathy.
