SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Cook County Commissioner Robert Steele,
4who passed away on June 19, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Commissioner Steele was born on June 29, 1961; he
6graduated from Morgan State University with a Bachelor of
7Science in Business Administration and Information Systems and
8as a Fellow of Leadership Greater Chicago; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Commissioner Steele was a life-long Chicagoan, a
10North Lawndale resident, and a community activist; he strived
11to provide better solutions in the face of adversity; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Commissioner Steele took office as Cook County
13Commissioner - 2nd District in December of 2006; he was elected
14President Pro-Tempore of the Cook County Board of Commissioners
15in December of 2010; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Commissioner Steele served on the Contract
17Compliance Committees for the Cook County Board and the Forest
18Preserve District of Cook County; he also served as Vice-Chair
19of the Cook County Health and Hospitals and on the
20Environmental Control and Forest Preserve District Finance
21Committees; he sponsored the Cook County Contract Management

1Ordinance, the Unlawful Filing of Fraudulent Lien Ordinance,
2and the Electronic Compiled Data Ordinance; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Commissioner Steele served on several local and
4national boards; he was a member of the Mt. Sinai Hospital
5Board of Directors, the Government Technology Foundation
6Advisory Board, the Gift of Hope Board of Directors, and
7President of the Board of Trustees of Frazier Preparatory
8Academy; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Commissioner Steele was a member of the board of
10the National Association of Counties Officials (NACo); he
11served as President of the National Association of Black County
12Officials (NABCO) from 2008-2010, most recently on its Board of
13Directors; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Commissioner Steele was a member of Lawndale
15Christian Church and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Commissioner Steele was a family man and a proud,
17dedicated father of three children; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
20Cook County Commissioner Robert Steele, and extend our sincere
21condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved

2    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3presented to the family of Commissioner Steele as an expression
4of our deepest sympathy.
