SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Earl H. Thomas, formerly of Spring Grove,
4who passed away on June 17, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Earl Thomas was the youngest and last surviving
6child of 10 children born to William H. and Ella Enright
7Thomas; he served in the 43rd Division of the United States
8Army in the Philippines and Japan during World War II; he was
9joined in marriage to Virginia Wilhelm for 51 years; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Earl Thomas had a wide range of experiences,
11including farm life in Iowa and Wisconsin, dairy delivery in
12McHenry and Hinsdale, and insurance sales with MetLife; his
13experience with dairy delivery and MetLife resulted in a
14perfect knowledge of all roads in the area; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Earl Thomas was a longtime and active member of
16Mount Hope United Methodist Church in Johnsburg; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Earl Thomas was preceded in death by his first
18wife, Virginia; he and Virginia had two children, William
19(Marianne) and Patricia (Richard) Thompson; four
20grandchildren, Christiane (Ralph) Sorenson, Laura (Keith)
21Murray, Diana (Raymond) Zakrzwski, and John (Denise) Thompson;

1and five great-grandchildren, Ella and Ethan Murray and Thomas,
2Mark, and Michael Zakrzwski; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Earl Thomas was later married to Mary Hedge for 24
4years and is survived by her many beloved children,
5grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
8Earl H. Thomas, and extend our sincere condolences to his
9family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
10further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of Earl Thomas as an expression of our
13deepest sympathy.
