SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Leamon Kemp "Lee/PawPaw" Jessup of
4Mahomet, who passed away on August 20, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Leamon Jessup was born in Urbana to Annie L. and
6Bobby Gene Jessup on September 9, 1950; he graduated from
7Illinois State University with a Bachelor of Science in
8Education and a Master of Science in Educational
9Administration; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Leamon Jessup began his teaching career in the
11Normal Community School District, where he was also a football
12coach, a wrestling coach and an Illinois High School
13Association wrestling official; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Leamon Jessup and his family moved to Mahomet in
151978 when he took the principal's position at the Seymour Grade
16School; when Mahomet and Seymour consolidated, he was moved to
17Lincoln Trail Elementary School, where he retired in 2005 as
18principal; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Leamon Jessup believed in community service and
20sought out ways to serve others; he was elected to the Mahomet
21Village Board; he held leadership positions in nearly every

1organization with which he was involved; he founded Lee J's
2Firehouse Golf and Arcades and Tropical Sno to provide a safe
3place for his kids to work and community children to play; he
4donated the Tropical Sno franchise to the Mahomet Area Youth
5Club; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Leamon Jessup dedicated over 40 years of service
7as a volunteer firefighter with the Bloomington Township and
8Cornbelt Fire Protection District, retiring in April 2017 as a
9trustee; he was an instrumental and dedicated member of the
10Mahomet Area Youth Club's Executive Board and a member of the
11Mahomet United Methodist Church; he was a Freemason and a
12member of Mahomet Lodge 220; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Leamon Jessup worked hard and played harder, and
14rarely missed an opportunity to enjoy a practical joke; his
15smile and laughter were infectious; he was an avid outdoorsman
16and enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with his
17children and grandchildren; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Leamon Jessup was preceded in death by his father,
19Bobby Gene Jessup, and his brother, Robert G. Jessup; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Leamon Jessup is survived by his mother, Annie
21Jessup; his wife, Beverly Jessup; his sons, Jeremy (Nichole),
22Joshua, and Joel (Katie); his daughter, Annie Jane Anglin

1(Tyler); his stepchildren, Jacquie Guevara (Matthew), Megan
2Berry (Lance), and Jake Foley; and nine grandchildren;
3therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
5ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
6Leamon Kemp "Lee/PawPaw" Jessup, and extend our sincere
7condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
8him; and be it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to the family of Leamon Jessup as an expression of
11our deepest sympathy.
