SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Roger W. Carlson of Deerfield, who passed
4away on August 1, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Roger Carlson was born in Minnesota on May 27,
61928 and grew up in Edina; he served in the United States Army
7from 1946 to 1948 and attended the University of Minnesota; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Roger Carlson worked in advertising sales, most
9notably with Fortune, National Geographic, and Parade
10magazines; in 1979, he opened Bookman's Alley in a warehouse
11off Sherman Avenue in Evanston; he built the shop into a
12sprawling complex filled with books, antiques, and artwork; he
13closed the store in 2013 after more than 33 years in business;
14and
 
15    WHEREAS, Roger Carlson is survived by his wife, Deborah;
16his children, Jeffrey (Marcia) Carlson, Ann (Clifford) Miller,
17Leslie Carlson-Magee, and Susan and Gregory Carlson; his
18grandchildren, Kyle McAfee, Dillon (Ashley) McAfee, Lee
19(Andrew) Rizzo, Clinton, Kevin, and Jay Magee, Michael and
20Katherine Carlson, and Drew and Woody Miller; and his
21great-grandchildren, Zeyda, Frances, and Charlotte; therefore,

1    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
3Roger W. Carlson, and extend our sincere condolences to his
4family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
5further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to the family of Roger Carlson as an expression of
8our deepest sympathy.
