SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Richard George "Dick" Steeves of Mahomet,
4who passed away on May 26, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Richard Steeves was born in St. Stephens, New
6Brunswick, Canada to George and Verna Steeves on June 14, 1939;
7he was raised in Agawam, Massachusetts and married Christa
8(Glassmyer) Sullivan in Hampton, Virginia on December 10, 1970;
9he served in the United States Army for over 20 years and was a
10highly-decorated officer; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Richard Steeves spent time in Texas before moving
12to Champaign, where he was an executive for the Southland
13Corporation for a decade and a half; upon retirement, he served
14as a consultant for the United States Department of Agriculture
15in Washington, D.C., traveling to the Baltics and Russia; he
16was also the owner of RGS Tax Services; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Richard Steeves was a stoic and virtuous man who
18loved to travel; he valued the love of family most of all; he
19held many committee and church positions in the Champaign
20County area and was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Richard Steeves was preceded in death by his

1parents; his daughter, Virginia Ann Sherman; his
2granddaughter, Hannah Faith Wirth; and his sister, Pam Vatrano;
3and
 
4    WHEREAS, Richard Steeves is survived by his wife, Christa;
5his sister, Marie Foster; his children, grandchildren, and
6great-grandchildren: son, Dennis Steeves (wife, Darlene, and
7sons, Anton and Richard); daughter, Shirley Hart (husband,
8Paul, and children, Andy Hart and Megan, married to Adam Pani);
9daughter, Kathleen Wirth-Couch (husband, Barry, and children,
10Miranda, married to Blake Drollinger, and TJ Wirth, to be
11married to Megan); grandson, Tony Sherman, married to Ashley;
12granddaughter, Teresa Sherman; and grandson, Travis Sherman,
13married to Lize-Mari; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
16Richard George "Dick" Steeves, and extend our sincere
17condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
18him; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Richard Steeves as an expression of
21our deepest sympathy.
