SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Gladys M. Raether of Waukegan, who passed
4away on August 22, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gladys Raether was born in Niles Center (Skokie)
6to Frederick and Sophia Wichmann on September 27, 1925; she
7graduated from Maine East High School and married George
8Raether at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Skokie on
9August 7, 1948; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Early in her life, Gladys Raether worked for the
11United States Navy at Great Lakes and for AC Nielsen Market
12Research; after she married, she devoted her life to making a
13home for her family; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Gladys Raether volunteered for the Disabled
15American Veterans; she was a past member of the Women of the
16Moose, Waukegan Curves, and TOPS; her hobbies were decorative
17painting, music, and arts and crafts; as members of Hy-Rollin
18Vans, she and George enjoyed camping, socializing, and
19friendship; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Gladys Raether was preceded in death by her
21husband, George; her grandson, Christopher Raether; her

1sister, Catherine Janes; and her parents; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Gladys Raether is survived by her children,
3Patricia (Stephen) Lapish, Linda Raether, and Donald (Donna)
4Raether; one niece; one nephew; five grandchildren; eight
5great-grandchildren; and numerous other family and friends;
6therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9Gladys M. Raether, and extend our sincere condolences to her
10family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
11further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Gladys Raether as an expression of
14our deepest sympathy.
