SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Dr. Joseph Matthew Saban of Lakewood, who
4passed away on September 29, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Joe Saban was born in South Elgin to Joseph and
6Dragica (Stilinovic) Saban on December 31, 1946; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Joe Saban began his career in education, teaching
8science to junior high and then high school students; after
9several years of teaching, he transitioned to the position of
10Assistant Superintendent in Charge of Finance at District 155
11in Crystal Lake; he later became Superintendent of Schools for
12the district and earned his Doctorate of Education; during his
13tenure, he facilitated the building of Prairie Ridge High
14School; after retiring from District 155, he became a Professor
15at Northern Illinois University, where he trained masters and
16doctoral students in educational leadership; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Joe Saban had a favorite saying; he believed in
18"doing what's right for kids"; he lived his life that way, both
19for the children of his community and his family; he liked
20nothing better than spending time with his children and
21grandchildren; his favorite moments were spending time on the
22beach, walking along a trail in a national forest, or sitting

1with a grandchild nestled in his lap; he was known for his
2quick wit and never missed an opportunity to make a moment fun;
3his home was always filled with laughter; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Joe Saban was preceded in death by his parents;
5and his siblings, Steve (Delores) Saban and Katherine Saban;
6and
 
7    WHEREAS, Joe Saban is survived by his wife Bonnie (Miller)
8Saban; his children, Matt (Julie) Saban, Tom Saban, Julia
9Saban, Jason (Tara) Strait, and Matt (Laura) Strait; his
10grandchildren, Madelyn and Boedi Newsom, Genevieve and Warren
11Strait, and Barret and Tillie Strait; his brother, John
12(Nicole) Saban; his sisters-in-law, Colleen (Ron) Mann and
13Tracy Miller; and twenty-two nieces and nephews; therefore, be
14it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17Dr. Joseph Matthew Saban and extend our sincere condolences to
18his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
19further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Joe Saban as an expression of our
22deepest sympathy.
