SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Research shows that investing in healthy child
3development reduces the likelihood of a significant array of
4costly conditions, including chronic health problems,
5premature mortality, lowered educational achievement, lost
6productivity, mental illness, violent crime, substance abuse
7and addiction, and the perpetuation of abuse and neglect; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Child abuse and neglect affects over one million
9children every year, including more than 100,000 children in
10Illinois; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Prevent Child Abuse America was founded in 1972 in
12Chicago and has worked for the last 45 years to promote the
13healthy development of children and prevent child abuse before
14it can occur; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Prevent Child Abuse America supports families,
16children, and communities through its 50-state Chapter Network
17and 600-site Healthy Families Network, which includes 37 sites
18in Illinois; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Prevent Child Abuse America advocates for
20policies and programs that promote healthy child development
21and prevent child abuse and neglect from occurring in the first

1place; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Illinoisans recognize and appreciate the
3contributions made by Prevent Child Abuse America to our
4communities through its work of supporting our children and
5building stronger families; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare April of
82018 as Prevent Child Abuse America Month in the State of
9Illinois, and we acknowledge the vital role of Prevent Child
10Abuse America in enhancing the lives of children across
11Illinois and across the country; and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to Prevent Child Abuse America as a symbol of our
14respect and esteem.
