SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Douglas R. McCumber of Tuscola, who
4passed away on September 26, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Doug McCumber was born in Urbana to Raymond R. and
6Kathryn M. Ellis McCumber on October 13, 1949; he graduated
7from Tuscola High School in 1967; as a student, he was elected
8co-captain of the basketball team and was a member of National
9Honor Society; he then attended the University of Illinois,
10where he was a member of the Delta Sigma Epsilon professional
11fraternity and a James Scholar; he earned a Bachelor of Science
12in Business Administration and graduated with high honors in
131972; after graduation, he served in the Illinois National
14Guard; he married Rhonda L. Gensler on July 21, 1979; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Doug McCumber began his career at the Continental
16Illinois National Bank in Chicago; he then joined the Tuscola
17National Bank and served as Vice President; he then became
18President and Chairman of the Board of First National Bank of
19Douglas County, now known as First Mid-Illinois Bank & Trust;
20in November 2000, he joined The First National Bank of Arcola
21as President & Director and served there until his retirement
22on June 30, 2012; and

1    WHEREAS, Doug McCumber served as President of the Tuscola
2Rotary Club, Tuscola Chamber of Commerce, and the Tuscola
3Community Development Corporation; he was a founding director
4and served ten years as Treasurer of the Tuscola Community
5Foundation; he was a Little League and Senior League Baseball
6Division coach, Biddy Basketball coach, girl's softball coach,
7and Treasurer of the Tuscola Junior Football League; he was
8known as "the Voice of the Warriors" and served 43 years as the
9field announcer for the Tuscola Warrior football program; he
10was named Grand Marshal of the 1987 Tuscola High School
11Homecoming parade; in recognition of his business
12achievements, he was elected into the Tuscola High School Hall
13of Fame in 2010; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Doug McCumber was a devoted member of the Tuscola
15United Methodist Church, where he participated in Bible study
16and served on the Board of Trustees, Capital Stewardship
17campaigns, and as Chairman of the Finance Committee; in 1986,
18he was recognized as "Tuscolian of the Year"; he was a member
19of the Tuscola Rotary Club for 45 years and was awarded the
20Paul Harris Fellow recognition; he was named Rotarian of the
21Year in 1992 and 2009; the Tuscola Masonic Lodge #332 presented
22him with the Community Builder Award; he was a lifetime member
23of the University of Illinois Alumni Association and was
24honored to be a member of the University of Illinois
25President's Council and the I Fund's Olympian Club; and

1    WHEREAS, Doug McCumber was an avid fan of Illini and
2Tuscola Warrior sports programs; he was a lifelong fan of the
3St. Louis Cardinals; he loved to spend time with his family,
4travel, and attend sporting events; he enjoyed helping others;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Doug McCumber was preceded in death by his father;
7and
 
8    WHEREAS, Doug McCumber is survived by his wife, Rhonda; his
9son, Matthew McCumber; his daughter, Marissa (Matt) Franks; his
10mother, Kathryn McCumber; his brother, Thom (Teri) McCumber;
11his sister, Kathy (Larry) Glabe; and his grandsons, Lane, Colt,
12and Clay Franks; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Douglas R. McCumber, and extend our sincere condolences to his
16family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Doug McCumber as an expression of
20our deepest sympathy.
