SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Joseph C. Burg of Woodstock, who passed
4away on November 6, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Joe Burg was born in Manitowoc, Wisconsin to
6Christopher and Anna (Ahlers) Burg on May 19, 1933 and was the
7youngest of eight children; the family moved to Woodstock in
81945; he attended St. Mary's School and graduated from high
9school in 1951; after graduation, he enlisted in the United
10States Air force, where he served for four years; he married
11Mary Ellen Evans at St. Mary's Church in Woodstock on September
127, 1953; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Joe Burg was a carpenter and worked for Freund
14Construction for 25 years; he retired from Peet Frate Line
15Inc.; he was also a 28-year member of the Woodstock Rural Fire
16Department, where he served as Chief; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Joe Burg was active at St. Mary's; he was
18President of the School Board, a member of the Parish Council,
19and a member of the Woodstock Council #776 Knights of Columbus,
20where he served as Grand Knight and longtime Financial
21Secretary; he was also a member of the Fourth Degree Knights of
22Columbus; and

1    WHEREAS, Joe Burg and his wife enjoyed spending time at
2their summer home in the Wisconsin Dells and vacationing with
3friends; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Joe Burg was preceded in death by his parents; his
5seven siblings, William (Grace) Burg, Al (Audrey) Burg, John
6(Dorothy) Burg, Helen (Ralph Kristensen), Dorothy (George)
7Kohl, Ervin (Phyllis) Burg, and Claire (Tennes) Gabrielson; and
8his brother-in-law, Robert Evans; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Joe Burg is survived by his loving wife of 64
10years, Mary; his children, Mary Jo Burg, Marcia (Jeff) Porter,
11Gary (Wendy) Burg, Robert Burg, and Michelle (Curtis) Price;
12his grandchildren, Meagan (Andrew Ruehl) Porter, CJ Price,
13Abigail Burg, Alivia Price, Kylie Burg, Madelyn Price, and
14Jason Burg; his great-grandchildren, Caden and Cambrie Ruehl;
15his sister-in-law, Susan Evans; and his 38 nieces and nephews;
16therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
19Joseph C. Burg and extend our sincere condolences to his
20family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
21further
