SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Jean C. Lennon of Joliet, who passed away
4on November 19, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jean Lennon was born in Chicago to Arthur and
6Alice (Hilbert) Canty on March 20, 1928; she was raised on the
7south side of Chicago and loved spending her summers at Camp
8Lake, Wisconsin; she graduated from Little Flower Grade School
9and Mercy High School in Chicago; she earned her bachelor's
10degree as an Art and English major from the University of
11Illinois; she married Colonel Arthur T. Lennon in 1951 and they
12lived in Alabama and the Washington, D.C. area before moving to
13Joliet in 1953; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Jean Lennon taught art and architecture at the
15Chicago Vocational School for a year; her true passion was
16teaching English as a Second Language, including vocational
17language, at Joliet Township High School for 10 years; she was
18proud to have taught and mentored many Indochinese and other
19refugees in the Joliet area; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Jean Lennon was a member of St. Paul the Apostle
21Catholic Church, St. Paul the Apostle Women's Club, and the
22Visitation and Aid Society of Joliet, where she served as

1Welfare Chair; she was a former member of the Newcomers Club of
2Joliet and the Junior Women's Club; she served as an election
3judge for 35 years and was known for her election soup by her
4fellow election judges, candidates who stopped by, and those
5who voted in her garage polling place; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Jean Lennon was preceded in death by her husband,
7Arthur; her beloved daughter, Elizabeth "Lisa" Lennon; her
8loving son, Arthur "Bud" C. Lennon; her great-granddaughter,
9Kathleen Rawlinson; her parents; and her sister, Alice
10O'Shaughnessy; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Jean Lennon is survived by her daughter, the
12Honorable Dinah (John) Archambeault; her son, John H. Lennon;
13her daughter-in-law, Rebecca Lennon; her "daughter", Mary
14Kohler; her grandchildren, Elizabeth "Lisa" (Steven) Thomas,
15John "Johnny" L. Archambeault, Mary "Molly" (Adam) Rawlinson,
16Ashley (Mark) Conner, Michael Lennon, Caitlin Lennon, and
17Claire Lennon; her great-grandchildren, Emma and Michael
18Thomas and Christian, Justice, Liberty, and Valor Rawlinson;
19three nieces; one nephew; and numerous cousins; therefore, be
20it
 
21    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
22ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
23Jean C. Lennon, and extend our sincere condolences to her

3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4presented to the family of Jean Lennon as an expression of our
5deepest sympathy.
