SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Phyllis Duff of Savoy, who passed away on
4December 17, 2017 at the age of 88; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Phyllis Duff earned a Bachelor of Science in
6Education from Miami University of Ohio and a Master of
7Education from the University of Illinois; she married Franklin
8Duff in Cincinnati, Ohio on April 14, 1954 and they lived in
9Ohio and New York before settling in Champaign in 1964; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Phyllis Duff briefly taught school in Cincinnati;
11she later taught for 22 years in Champaign Unit 4 Schools,
12retiring in 1990; 18 of those years were spent at Bottenfield
13Elementary School; she had a great affection for her students
14and for many years after retirement she was often recognized
15and approached by former students or their parents; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Phyllis Duff enjoyed spending time with her family
17and friends; she also loved to read; she and her husband
18enjoyed traveling in the United States and abroad; they
19attended over 25 elder hostel programs across the U.S.; since
202012, they enjoyed residing at the Windsor of Savoy; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Phyllis Duff had a wonderful sense of humor, a

1joyful spirit, and a smile that would light up any room; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Phyllis Duff is survived by her loving husband,
3Frank; her children, Cathy Berrahou, Betsy (Mark) Strong, and
4Brian Duff; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and
5her brothers, James W. and William C. Stephenson; therefore, be
6it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9Phyllis Duff, and extend our sincere condolences to her family,
10friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of Phyllis Duff as an expression of our
13deepest sympathy.
