SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Page Johnson Parkhill of Champaign, who
4passed away on January 11, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Page Parkhill was born in Champaign to Dr. William
6S. and Charlotte Keck Johnson on September 25, 1956; she
7attended Champaign schools, including South Side, Edison, and
8Central High School, where she was a state finalist in
9extemporaneous speech and graduated as one of the
10valedictorians of her class in 1974; she attended Duke
11University from 1974 until 1976, where she was a member of the
12varsity debate team; she then transferred to the University of
13Illinois and graduated with high honors with a Bachelor of
14Science in Finance in 1978; she married John Parkhill on March
1531, 1979; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Page Parkhill was a member of many organizations
17including her college sorority, Kappa Alpha Theta, and the
18Junior Leagues of Houston, St. Louis, and Champaign-Urbana; she
19served as a member of the Board of Directors at BankChampaign
20for over 20 years; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Page Parkhill co-founded with her brothers and Dr.
22Michael S. Goldwasser the William S. Johnson Fund in 1994 as a

1way of honoring her father; through the fund, Dr. Goldwasser
2led medical missions and provided free surgeries for cleft lip
3and palate deformities to children in underdeveloped
4countries; she traveled with Dr. Goldwasser and his surgical
5teams to the Philippines, Mexico, Nicaragua, Venezuela, and
6Honduras; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Most recently, Page Parkhill, along with her
8closest friends, organized an effort called Page's ALS
9Challenge (PALS) to raise funds to benefit other ALS patients
10in the Champaign-Urbana area; she was honored for her
11fundraising efforts and her advocacy for PALS with the Iron
12Horse award, the highest level of recognition from the ALS
13Association of Greater Chicago; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Page Parkhill was a lifelong member of Emmanuel
15Memorial Episcopal Church, where she was baptized, confirmed
16and married; she served two terms on the vestry and twice as a
17rector's warden; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Page Parkhill was preceded in death by her
19parents; her paternal grandparents, Leo and Henrietta Johnson;
20and her maternal grandparents, Charles and Edith Keck; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Page Parkhill is survived by her husband, John;
22her children, Whitney and Clayton (Stephanie); her brothers,

1William L. Johnson (Peggy) and David L. Johnson (Teresa); and
2her nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
4ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
5Page Johnson Parkhill and extend our sincere condolences to her
6family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
7further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to the family of Page Parkhill as an expression of
10our deepest sympathy.
