SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Helen Rawson Stroner, who passed away on
4February 10, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Helen Stroner was born at her grandfather's home
6in Chicago to John and Helen (Melka) Eminger on March 24, 1919;
7shortly after her birth, her family moved to Lombard, where she
8attended school and graduated from York High School in 1937;
9athletics and competition were an important part of her life;
10she played baseball for the women's league with the Elmhurst
11V8s; she married her coach, Bill Rawson, on the baseball field
12before a game in 1940; he passed away in 1984, and she later
13married Irv Stroner in 1989, and they had five wonderful years
14together; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Helen Stroner worked for the National Tea Grocery
16and was eventually promoted to temporary store manager; after
17she and her husband moved to Woodstock, she worked at Guardian
18Electric, Oaks, and Arnold Engineering until her retirement in
191983; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Helen Stroner enjoyed traveling and was fortunate
21to go on family camping trips across the United States and to
22Hawaii, Alaska, Australia, and Europe; she fulfilled a lifelong

1dream when she attended the Summer Olympics in Montreal in
21976; in addition to traveling, she enjoyed bowling, gardening,
3bird watching, playing cards, and watching sports; she was a
4member of the Machinists Union, the Audubon Society, the
5Environmental Defenders, and the Farm Bureau, where she
6especially enjoyed participating in the Ag in the Classroom
7program; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Helen Stroner was preceded in death by her
9parents; her first husband, Bill; her second husband, Irv; an
10infant sister; an infant son; and many aunts, uncles, and
11cousins; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Helen Stroner is survived by her daughters, Janet
13Beck and Sally (Ken) Martine; her grandchildren, Collin (Holly)
14Beck, Todd Beck, and Elizabeth and Hannah Martine; and her
15great-grandson, Landon Beck; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Helen Rawson Stroner and extend our sincere condolences to her
19family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
20further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Helen Stroner as an expression of
