SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of James P. "Jim" Stanczak of Waukegan, who
4passed away on April 9, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jim Stanczak was born in Waukegan to John and Mary
6(Mitzy) Stanczak on October 13, 1934; he was raised in North
7Chicago; he earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science
8at Bradley University, where he also walked on to the baseball
9team and set the stolen base record; he helped the Bradley
10Braves play their way into the College World Series, where he
11led the team in hitting; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Jim Stanczak retired from the United States Navy
13as a Captain and Vietnam Veteran; he was deemed the "best
14instrument pilot around" by his peers, which was a tremendous
15source of honor for him; he was also the former proprietor of
16Stanczak Lanes in North Chicago, Grand Bowl in Waukegan, and
17Sluggo's Sweets N Stuff in Zion; he was the former Regional
18Manager for the DMV and, most recently, the former Manager of
19Waukegan International Airport, where he revitalized the
20Northern Illinois Airshow/Wings Over Waukegan; he took pride in
21honoring veterans and bringing the thrill of aviation to the
22youth of Lake County; and

1    WHEREAS, Jim Stanczak was a member of the Waukegan City
2Club, the Lake County Board, the IPAA Board of Directors, the
3PRCU, the KSKJ, the Polish Legion of American Veterans, the
4Glen Flora CC, the Swedish Glee Club, and St. Anastasia Church,
5where he was a frequent usher; he was a Third Degree Knight of
6Columbus; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Jim Stanczak received many honors, including the
8Lake County Men of Distinction Award and the Waukegan Cares
9Lifetime Achievement Award for Politicians in the Military; he
10was inducted into several local halls of fame, including the
11Bradley University Sports Hall of Fame, the Greater Peoria
12Sports Hall of Fame, the Lake County Sports Hall of Fame, and
13the upcoming Lake County Men's Bowling Hall of Fame; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Jim Stanczak was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs
15and the Green Bay Packers; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Jim Stanczak was preceded in death by his parents;
17his in-laws, John and Catherine Ferkin; his grandson, Derek
18Michael Pederson; his brothers, Lawrence, Leonard, Edward, and
19Samuel; and his sisters, Marcella, Geraldine, and Patricia; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Jim Stanczak is survived by his wife, Mary Kay;
21his daughter, Michelle (Mike) Pederson; his son, James J. "JJ"
22(Kelly Shields) Stanczak; his grandchildren, Samantha and

1Sydney Pederson and Madelyn Stanczak; his brother, John; and
2his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be

4    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
5ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
6James P. "Jim" Stanczak and extend our sincere condolences to
7his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
8further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to the family of Jim Stanczak as an expression of our
11deepest sympathy.
