    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that the Secretary of State shall provide electric vehicle registration plates specifically for persons with disabilities. Effective December 1, 2019.

1    AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by changing
5Section 3-805 as follows:
 
6    (625 ILCS 5/3-805)  (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 3-805)
7    Sec. 3-805. Electric vehicles. The owner of a motor
8vehicle of the first division or a motor vehicle of the second
9division weighing 8,000 pounds or less propelled by an electric
10engine and not utilizing motor fuel, may register such vehicle
11for a fee not to exceed $35 for a 2-year registration period.
12The Secretary may, in his discretion, prescribe that electric
13vehicle registration plates be issued for an indefinite term,
14such term to correspond to the term of registration plates
15issued generally, as provided in Section 3-414.1. The Secretary
16shall provide electric vehicle registration plates for persons
17with disabilities to applicants who meet the criteria of
18Section 3-609 or 3-616. In no event may the registration fee
19for electric vehicles exceed $18 per registration year.

21    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect December
