SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Karen Williams-Grier, who passed away on
4January 22, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Karen Williams-Grier was born in Chicago to
6Antoinette Bass and Willie "Bill" Williams on January 6, 1961;
7she graduated from the Academy of Our Lady in 1979 and studied
8nursing at Lewis University; she married Bernard Grier on
9August 16, 1997; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Karen Williams-Grier was a member of the Mt. Joy
11Missionary Baptist Church, where she was part of the Caregivers
12Ministry and president of the Usher Board; she enjoyed talking
13on the phone, listing to music and her police scanner, and
14staying current by watching the news; she was warm, funny, and
15generous to a fault; she lived her life with purpose; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Karen Williams-Grier was preceded in death by her
17maternal grandparents, Alvin and Nettie James Dumas; her
18paternal grandparents, Willie and Ellen Williams; her special
19aunt, Loretta Palm; and other relatives and friends; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Karen Williams-Grier is survived by her husband,
21Bernard Grier; her children, Lauren (Benjamin III) Holliman and

1Joshua Grier; her parents; her bonus mom, Sylester Williams;
2her brothers, Kevin Williams, Keith Richardson, and Keyth
3(Sharri) Williams; her grandchildren, Benjamin IV and Savannah
4Holliman; her nephews, Keyth II and Kaysen Williams; her
5special cousins, Michael and Annette; her best friend since
6kindergarten, Kathy Williams; her adopted brother, Hudson
7Palm; her aunt, Lanice Richardson; and extended family member
8and friends; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Karen Williams-Grier and extend our sincere condolences to her
12family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Karen Williams-Grier as an
16expression of our deepest sympathy.
