SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Edith "Edie" D'Atri of Joliet, who passed
4away on January 10, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Edie D'Atri was born in Joliet to Angelo and
6Amelia (Mitri) Paluzzi on February 24, 1947; In 1944, she
7graduated from Joliet Township High School, where she was the
8first member of her family to be inducted into the National
9Honor Society; she started a tradition that has been carried on
10by her children and grandchildren; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Edie D'Atri worked at Al's Steakhouse, D'Amico's,
12and Syl's restaurants, where she was known as a friendly and
13capable waitress; she credited her years working as a waitress
14for her good health; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Edie D'Atri was a devoted member of St. Jude
16Parish; she was also a member of the Catholic Women's League,
17the Ladies of the Elks, and the Cantigny Post Auxiliary; she
18and her husband, Chester, volunteered at the Elks and at
19Bicentennial Park; she loved a good joke and playing games,
20including Euchre and Canasta; she was an avid knitter and
21seamstress and made hundreds of baby hats for Birthright; her
22sewing skills were used to help many family members and friends

1with alterations and projects; she and Chester enjoyed
2traveling, especially visiting relatives in California,
3Alaska, Canada, Boston, Cleveland, and Italy; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Edie D'Atri was preceded in death by her parents;
5her eldest sister, Violet (Steven) Biro; her husband of 56
6years, Chester; and her cousin, Phyllis Paluzzi; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Edie D'Atri is survived by her daughters, Denise
8(James) Maffeo and Ramona (Paul) Delrose; her grandchildren,
9Tony (Angela) and Lisa Maffeo and Marissa and Michael Delrose;
10her great-grandchildren, Joseph, Matthew, and Mia Maffeo; her
11sisters, Lillian (the late Joseph) Bonczek and Angela (the late
12Henry) Giermala; her cousin, Geno (Margaret) Paluzzi; and her
13many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
16Edith "Edie" D'Atri and extend our sincere condolences to her
17family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
18further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Edie D'Atri as an expression of our
21deepest sympathy.
