SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Virgil L. "Sarge" Cochran of Silvis, who
4passed away on February 10, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Virgil Cochran was born to Grady and Artie (Pitts)
6Cochran in Moline on August 14, 1929; Virgil married the love
7of his life, Betty McDaniel, in Hernando, Mississippi on
8February 18, 1952; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Virgil Cochran joined the United States Marine
10Corps (USMC) in July, 1946; he held the honor of being a WWII,
11Korean War, and Vietnam War veteran; during his military
12career, he was a crew chief and aircraft mechanic; Virgil
13retired as Gunnery Sargeant E-6 from the USMC in 1966 after
14serving his country with honor for 20 years; he was extremely
15proud of his military service; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Upon military retirement, Virgil Cochran and his
17family moved to Silvis; there, Virgil worked for John Deere
18Harvester as an instrument test mechanic for the Product
19Engineering Division, retiring in 1989 after 23 years of
20service; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Virgil Cochran was a member of the IAM, American

1Legion Post 227, and, most importantly, the Thursday morning
2East Moline Maid-Rite Marine Corps coffee group; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Virgil Cochran exemplified the Marine Corps
4saying "Semper Fi, always faithful" in his life; he will be
5fondly remembered as being sweet, kind, lovable, and
6understanding; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Virgil Cochran was preceded in death by his
8parents, Grady and Artie (Pitts) Cochran; and his wife, Betty
9(McDaniel) Cochran; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Virgil Cochran is survived by his children,
11William (Tamara) Cochran, Michael (Deb) Cochran, Brenda (Carl)
12Johnson, and Lisa Cochran; his grandchildren, Erin Cochran
13(Jayson Johnson), Laura (Dominic) Carlson, Jesse (Lindsay)
14Johnson, Tyler Johnson, Perry (Kristen) Johnson; his sister,
15Betty Davidson; his nephew, Gary (Laurie) Davidson; and his
16nieces, Diane (Rick) Maier and Karyn (Greg) Griffiths;
17therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
20Virgil L. "Sarge" Cochran and extend our sincere condolences to
21his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it

1    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2presented to the family of Virgil Cochran as an expression of
3our deepest sympathy.
