SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Ralph Evan Johnson of Jacksonville,
4who passed away on April 6, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ralph Johnson was born in Jacksonville to Everett
6and Margaret Murphy Johnson on September 29, 1932; he
7graduated from Routt Catholic High School in 1950; he served
8in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was stationed in
9Austria; he married Agnes Jackson at Our Saviour Catholic
10Church on January 8, 1955; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Ralph Johnson farmed with his sons; he was a
12member of the local farm bureau and was named Outstanding
13Young Farmer by the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Ralph Johnson served his community in many
15capacities, including as president of the Holy Name Society at
16Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Franklin; he was a member of
17the Franklin Lions Club since 1957, serving as district
18cabinet secretary from 1964 to 1965, district governor, and
19chairman of the Council Governors from 1979 to 1980 for the
20Lions of Illinois; he was recognized by the Lions for 60 years
21of perfect attendance; he was also a member of the Lions of
22Illinois Foundation Board; and

1    WHEREAS, Ralph Johnson was a member of the Franklin School
2Board and Franklin American Legion Post 1089 for 50 years,
3serving as commissioner for seven years; he was a charter
4member of the Morgan County Sheriff's Office Merit Commission
5and was a precinct committeeman for Pisgah; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Ralph Johnson served with the Combined Veterans
7Ceremonial Team for 21 years and was commander for 15 years; he
8was a member of Our Saviour Catholic Church and a former member
9of Sacred Heart Church; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Ralph Johnson was preceded in death by his
11siblings, Helen Geimer, James Johnson, Margaret Burnett, Mary
12Fleischli, Harold Johnson, and Donald Johnson; his son, Ralph
13Evan Johnson Jr.; and his grandson, Samuel Evan Massalone; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Ralph Johnson is survived by his wife, Agnes; his
15children, Nancy (Steve) Decker, Everett (LeAnn) Johnson,
16Patricia (Mike) Elliott, Darryl (Stacy) Johnson, Karen (Mike)
17Roberts, Rebecca (Mark) Johnson-Dyer, and Christopher (Mindi)
18Johnson; his grandchildren, Jeremy (Bethany) Decker, Valerie
19(Danny) Krohe, Chad (Jessi) Johnson, Jessica Johnson, Erica
20Klendworth, Justin (Karrie) Johnson, Ashley (Andy) DeGroot,
21Jenna Johnson, Ryan (Katrina) Elliott, Alaina Elliott, Alex
22Johnson, Brandon (Autumn) Johnson, Mitchell Shade, Evan Shade,

11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13Ralph Evan Johnson and extend our sincere condolences to his
14family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Ralph Johnson as an expression of
18our deepest sympathy.
