SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Chronic kidney disease is the progressive,
3gradual loss of kidney function, which results in a decrease
4in the ability of the kidneys to remove waste from the body;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, It is estimated that 37 million adults in the
7U.S. have chronic kidney disease, and of those, approximately
890% remain undiagnosed; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Without diagnosis and treatment to slow the
10progression of the disease, chronic kidney disease can
11progress to end-stage renal failure, which is fatal without
12dialysis or kidney transplant; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Regular screening and early detection can prevent
14the progression of kidney disease to kidney failure; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Kidney disease is the eighth-leading cause of
16death in the State of Illinois; and
 
17    WHEREAS, The month of March is designated as National
18Kidney Month to raise awareness of kidney disease and the
19importance of prevention and early detection; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare March of
32024 as Kidney Month in the State of Illinois; and be it
4further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois as a
7symbol of our respect and esteem.
