SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3congratulate Janet Bernice Runkel Anderson on the occasion of
4her 100th birthday; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Janet Anderson was born on May 14, 1924; she
6attended school in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area; during her
7high school years, she worked at her father's grocery store,
8graduating from Menomonee Falls High School in 1942; she
9attended Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota and
10graduated Phi Beta Kappa; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Janet Anderson married Burton Anderson in August
121946, and they moved to Evanston, Illinois in order for her
13husband to complete dental school; they then moved to
14Northbrook in 1953, where they raised three daughters; that
15same year, she joined the Village Presbyterian Church; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Janet Anderson and her husband were both heavily
17involved in raising their daughters, and she assisted in her
18children's organizations, including Scouts and 4-H, as well as
19school activities; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Janet Anderson was an accomplished seamstress who
21also learned how to type transcripts in Braille for the blind,

1served on and volunteered for the Presbyterian Home Board, and
2enjoyed going out to dinner and dancing with her husband; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Janet Anderson has been a lifetime letter writer
4who has stayed in touch with her high school and college
5friends; she enjoys knitting, reading, doing crossword
6puzzles, playing cribbage, and visiting with friends; she has
7also enjoyed planning family vacations and traveling over the
8course of her life, and she has taken several domestic and
9international trips; she loves taking wonderful walks at the
10Chicago Botanic Gardens every chance she can find; and
 
11    WHEREAS, For the past 41 years, Janet Anderson has been an
12active member and loving sister of P.E.O. Chapter IW, an
13International Women's Philanthropic Educational Organization
14dedicated to bringing women increased opportunities for
15obtaining higher education; a wonderful cook always open to
16trying new foods, she has become known as a memorable hostess
17for serving her warmed, wrapped in foil, ready-to-eat ham and
18cheese sandwiches at many P.E.O. luncheons; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Janet Anderson has enjoyed residing at Covenant
20Living in Northbrook for almost six years, and she still
21enjoys going out to eat and attending the symphony and the
22theater; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Janet
3Bernice Runkel Anderson on her 100th birthday, and we wish her
4continued health and happiness; and be it further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to Janet Anderson as an expression of our esteem and
7respect.
