HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, A 75th birthday celebration is being held in honor
3 of Dr. LouDella Evans Reid; a luncheon is set for Saturday,
4 July 30, 2005, and a Birthday Musical Celebration is scheduled
5 for Sunday, July 31, 2005, which will include a performance by
6 the Homecoming Reunion Choir consisting of current and former
7 Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church choir members; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Dr. Reid has a national reputation as one of the
9 most outstanding ministers of music; her unique style of
10 directing is majestic as well as powerful and has enhanced the
11 services of her church, Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church of
12 Chicago, for almost 55 years; and
 
13     WHEREAS, She was the only woman among the five charter
14 members of her church, where her brother, the Reverend Clay
15 Evans, is the founder and senior pastor; she created the
16 church's first choir, served as its first pianist, and was
17 appointed Minister of Music in 1963, during a time in which it
18 was unusual for women to hold such a position; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Dr. Reid is noted for arranging songs that have
20 been featured in musical recordings, including "New Name in
21 Glory" and "Bringing in the Sheaves", as well as for her moving
22 renditions of hymns such as "It is Well", "Even Me", "More Love
23 to Thee", and "Close to Thee"; her musical talents have been
24 showcased in many arenas, including in over 30 musical releases
25 of the Reverend Clay Evans and the Fellowship Missionary
26 Baptist Church Choir, recordings of the National Baptist
27 Convention, U.S.A., Inc., and numerous choral concerts across
28 the nation and throughout Europe; and
 
29     WHEREAS, She currently holds the titles of Minister of
30 Music Emeritus at Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church and
31 Music Advisor for the mass choirs of First Church of

1 Deliverance; she also serves as a musical consultant for church
2 choirs and music groups throughout the Chicagoland area; in May
3 of 2000, she received the honorary degree of Doctor of Humane
4 Letters from Arkansas Baptist College; therefore, be it
 
5     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
6 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
7 we congratulate Dr. LouDella Evans Reid on the occasion of her
8 75th birthday celebration; and be it further
 
9     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10 presented to Dr. Reid as an expression of our respect and
11 esteem and with best wishes for many more happy years.
