HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. Rowland Chang
4 on receiving the Freedom of Movement Award from the Arthritis
5 Foundation of Greater Chicago on October 13, 2007; and
 
6     WHEREAS, The Freedom of Movement Award acknowledges
7 leaders in the advancement of research and awareness for the
8 management, prevention, and cure of arthritis, the nation's
9 number one cause of disability; and
 
10     WHEREAS, Dr. Rowland Chang is a professor at Northwestern
11 University's Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago and the
12 Immediate Past Chair of the Board of the Greater Chicago
13 Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation; he is the current chair of
14 the Public Health Council of the Arthritis Foundation's
15 national board; and he is an active member of the Illinois
16 Arthritis Initiative Partnership through the Illinois
17 Department of Public Health since its inception in 1999,
18 providing his expertise on public policy and rheumatology to
19 participating members; and
 
20     WHEREAS, Dr. Rowland Chang has worked hard over the years
21 to help state and federal public policy makers understand that
22 arthritis is a major public health problem, affecting over 2.3

1 million Illinoisans and costing over $2.67 billion in direct
2 and indirect health care costs in the State of Illinois; he has
3 been a true leader in educating others about this disease, how
4 to treat it, how to live with it, and how public health
5 officials should attack it; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Dr. Rowland Chang has and continues to be a true
7 advocate for more research, better physician and public
8 education, and a comprehensive public health approach to
9 arthritis; therefore, be it
 
10     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
12 congratulate Dr. Rowland Chang on receiving the Freedom of
13 Movement Award and wish him continued success and happiness in
14 the future; and be it further
 
15     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16 presented to Dr. Rowland Chang as a symbol of our esteem and
17 respect.
