HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Cornelius
4 Lindy Allen of Chicago, who passed away on May 28, 2008; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Cornelius Allen was born on October 13, 1928 in
6 Gary, Indiana; his parents were the late Diston and Addie P.
7 Allen; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Cornelius Allen attended high school at Oakwood
9 Academy in Huntsville, Alabama, graduating with the class of
10 1947; he was then drafted into the United States Armed Forces,
11 and served as Private First Class in 1952; he received an
12 honorable discharge after committed service in the United
13 States Army Reserve in 1957; and
 
14     WHEREAS, In 1955, Cornelius Allen pursued an adventurous
15 career with the Chicago Transit Authority; he spoke often of
16 the passengers who became his friends and the children that he
17 ushered to school who knew his smiling face; he retired from
18 the CTA after 30 years of loyal service; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Cornelius Allen was a road warrior at heart who
20 frequently traveled by car to visit his family; and

1     WHEREAS, Cornelius Allen was a proponent of education and
2 encouraged any young person to engage and excel in their
3 educational pursuits; committed to his ancestry and
4 knowledgeable of his heritage, he also encouraged his family to
5 "root your roots" and assured that his family stayed connected
6 and carried pride for their ancestors; forever engaged and
7 connected to his family near and far, there was seldom an event
8 or occasion that would not be noticed, commended, attended, and
9 proclaimed; and
 
10     WHEREAS, Cornelius Allen is survived by his son, Dell Allen
11 (Debbie); his daughter, Addie Allen; his grandchildren, Marcus
12 Allen, Dell "Rome" Allen, and Justus Cornelius Allen Pugh; his
13 great-grandchildren, Cameron Allen, Lyndon Allen, and Lucas
14 Allen; his brothers, Roy Shephard and Rosenwald (Eunice) Allen
15 Sr.; and his sister, Mary Ann Guyton; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Cornelius Allen will be remembered by all who knew
17 and loved him for his willingness to share with others, his
18 generosity, and his commitment to education and his ancestry;
19 therefore, be it
 
20     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
21 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
22 mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of
23 Cornelius Lindy Allen; and be it further

3 expression of our sympathy.
