SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Thomas W. Holland, who passed away on
4 February 19, 2007; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Thomas W. Holland was a 25-year-old Navy veteran
6 when he joined his father, L.H. Holland, in the Holland and
7 Holland law practice in 1951 in a historic building in downtown
8 Wood River; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Thomas Holland had a reputation as a lawyer who
10 did legal work for family estates in probate court; school
11 districts and city officials recognized his knowledge of school
12 and municipal law; he was hired as Wood River city attorney,
13 lawyer for East Alton-Wood River High School, East Alton
14 Elementary District, Wood River-Hartford Elementary District,
15 and Lewis and Clark Community College; and
 
16     WHEREAS, He was a founding father of Lewis and Clark
17 Community College and prepared all the legal documents to form
18 the college; through his efforts before the Illinois Supreme
19 Court the city of Wood River was able to obtain title to Belk
20 Park, and he subsequently donated his legal services for the
21 development of the Belk Park Golf Course; and

1     WHEREAS, He was a leader in the legal profession and active
2 in the Wood River community, public library, his church, and
3 many organizations; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Thomas Holland is survived by his wife, Mary
5 Betty; his children, Christopher Holland, Robin Holland, and
6 Susan and her husband, Bill, Florent; his stepsons and their
7 wives, Raymond and Linda White, and David and Sue White; his
8 grandchildren, Casey, Megan and Tom Florent; his
9 stepgrandchildren, Jessica and her husband, Carlos, Ferreira,
10 Jarrod, Jacob, Molly, Dylan and Sydney White; his
11 stepgreat-granddaughter, Madeline Ferreira; his brother-in-law
12 and his wife, Bob and Janet Tite; and his sisters-in-law, Kay
13 Pollard, Marsha Tassinari and Nancy Shaw; therefore, be it
 
14     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
15 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
16 his family and friends, the passing of Thomas W. Holland; and
17 be it further
 
18     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19 presented to the family of Thomas W. Holland as a symbol of our
20 sympathy.
