HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate Evan Lysacek on the
4 occasion of his gold medal victory in the figure skating
5 competition at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver,
6 British Columbia, Canada; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Evan Lysacek was born on June 4, 1985; after
8 graduating from Neuqua Valley High School in 2003, Evan Lysacek
9 moved from Naperville to Los Angeles, California to pursue his
10 dream and further hone his skills; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Evan Lysacek became the first American man to win
12 the Olympic gold medal in figure skating since Brian Boitano in
13 1988 when he defeated defending champion Evgeni Plushenko; Mr.
14 Lysacek finished the competition with a career-best 257.67,
15 1.31 points ahead of Plushenko, to secure the gold medal; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Evan Lysacek has performed at the Olympics twice,
17 in 2006 and 2010; he is the 2000 and 2007 U.S. Champion and the
18 2009 World Champion; he is a champion of the 2009 Grand Prix
19 Final; he was the 2005 and 2007 Four Continents Champion, the
20 2009 Skate America Champion, and the 2006 Cup of China
21 Champion; he is also the winner of numerous local skating
22 championships throughout his 15-year career; and

1     WHEREAS, Evan Lysacek was the winner of SKATING Magazine's
2 2009 Readers' Choice Skater of the Year Award; and
 
3     WHEREAS, Evan Lysacek credits much of his success to the
4 efforts of his dedicated coach, Frank Carroll; his talented
5 choreographer, Lori Nichol; his loving parents and biggest
6 supporters, Don and Tanya; and his siblings, Laura and
7 Christina; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Evan Lysacek serves as a model of hard work,
9 integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of
10 Illinois; therefore, be it
 
11     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
12 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
13 congratulate Evan Lysacek on the occasion of his gold medal
14 victory and wish him continued success and happiness in the
15 future; and be it further
 
16     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17 presented to Evan Lysacek as a symbol of our esteem and
18 respect.
