SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
105 ILCS 5/27-2.5 new

    Amends the School Code. Allows a school board to waive, by resolution, any statutory or regulatory curricular mandate for which the school district does not receive a separate State appropriation through the State Board of Education or reimbursement by the State to extend the school day or year (with exceptions for special education requirements, graduation requirements, and any curricular mandate directly related to an Illinois Learning Standard). Provides that if a student requests information on any curricular mandate that has been waived, then the school district shall provide the student with the requested information. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning education.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section
5 27-2.5 as follows:
 
6     (105 ILCS 5/27-2.5 new)
7     Sec. 27-2.5. Curricular mandate waivers.
8     (a) Notwithstanding Section 2-3.25g or any other provision
9 of this Code, a school board may waive, by resolution, any
10 statutory or regulatory curricular mandate for which the school
11 district does not receive a separate State appropriation
12 through the State Board of Education or reimbursement by the
13 State to extend the school day or year. This Section does not
14 apply to special education requirements, graduation
15 requirements, or any curricular mandate directly related to an
16 Illinois Learning Standard.
17     (b) If a student requests information on any curricular
18 mandate that has been waived under this Section, then the
19 school district shall provide the student with the requested
20 information.
21     (c) The State Board of Education may adopt any rules that
22 it deems necessary for the implementation of this Section.
