AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 2980

2     AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 2980, AS AMENDED,
3 by replacing everything after the enacting clause with the
4 following:
 
5     "Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section
6 27-2.5 as follows:
 
7     (105 ILCS 5/27-2.5 new)
8     Sec. 27-2.5. Instructional mandate discontinuance.
9     (a) For the purposes of this Section, "instructional
10 mandate" means any State law in this Article that requires a
11 school district to devote any amount of time to the instruction
12 of or engagement by students in a subject or course.
13     (b) Notwithstanding Section 2-3.25g or any other provision
14 of this Code, a school board may discontinue, by publicly
15 adopted resolution, any instructional mandate in this Article
16 for which the school district does not receive a separate State

1 appropriation through the State Board of Education or
2 reimbursement by the State to extend the school day or year.
3 This Section, however, does not permit a school board to
4 discontinue by resolution the requirements set forth in
5 Sections 27-6, 27-7, and 27-22.10 of this Code and Sections
6 27-24 through 27-24.8 of this Code.
7     (c) If a student requests information on any instructional
8 mandate that has been discontinued under this Section, then the
9 school district shall provide the student with the requested
10 information.
11     (d) The State Board of Education may adopt any rules that
12 it deems necessary for the implementation of this Section.
 
13     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
14 becoming law.".
