SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The gift of sight is one of our most valued
3 senses; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Older Illinois residents are particularly
5 susceptible to loos of vision through age-related macular
6 degeneration, cataracts, glaucoma, and diabetes; and
 
7     WHEREAS, With early detection and treatment, it is possible
8 to preserve sight for this older generation; and
 
9     WHEREAS, In 2010, EyeCare America will celebrate its 25th
10 anniversary; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Since its inception, EyeCare America has served
12 over 25,000 people in Illinois with 270 volunteer
13 ophthalmologists; and
 
14     WHEREAS, More than 7,000 ophthalmologists volunteer to see
15 EyeCare America patients annually; and
 
16     WHEREAS, People who are age 65 or older, who have not seen
17 an ophthalmologist in 3 or more years, may be eligible to
18 receive eye exams and care for up to one year at no cost to the
19 patient; therefore, be it

1     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
2 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we designate the week
3 of May 3 - 7, 2010, as EyeCare America Week in the State of
4 Illinois.
