1    AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by changing
5Section 3-664 as follows:
 
6    (625 ILCS 5/3-664)
7    Sec. 3-664. Gold Star license plates. Upon proper
8application, the Secretary of State shall issue registration
9plates designated as Gold Star license plates to any Illinois
10resident who is the surviving widow, widower, or parent, child,
11or stepchild of a person who served in the Armed Forces of the
12United States and lost his or her life while in service whether
13in peacetime or war. The surviving widow or widower, each
14surviving child or stepchild, and each surviving parent, or in
15the absence of a surviving parent, only one surviving sibling
16shall be issued one set of registration plates. Registration
17plates issued under this Section shall be for first division
18vehicles and second division vehicles of 8,000 pounds or less.
19The Secretary may, in his or her discretion, allow the plates
20to be issued as vanity or personalized plates in accordance
21with Section 3-405.1 of this Code. An applicant shall be
22charged only the appropriate registration fee.
