Amends the Fish and Aquatic Life Code. Provides that a person may not possess, sell, offer for sale, trade, or distribute a shark fin. Defines "shark" and "shark fin".

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | | Section 5. The Fish and Aquatic Life Code is amended by |
5 | | adding Section 5-30 as follows: |
6 | | (515 ILCS 5/5-30 new) |
7 | | Sec. 5-30. Shark fins. |
8 | | (a) As used in this Section, "shark" means any species of |
9 | | the subclass Elasmobranchii. |
10 | | (b) As used in this Section, "shark fin" means a raw, |
11 | | dried, or otherwise detached fin or a raw, dried, or otherwise |
12 | | processed detached tail of a shark. |
13 | | (c) Except as otherwise provided in subsection (d) of this |
14 | | Section, a person may not possess, sell, offer for sale, trade, |
15 | | or distribute a shark fin on or after January 1, 2013. |
16 | | (d) Until July 1, 2013, any person may possess, sell, offer |
17 | | for sale, trade, or distribute a shark fin possessed by that |
18 | | person on January 1, 2013.
