HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Aurora Gore of
4Round Lake on the occasion of completing a 21-mile swim across
5the English Channel; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Aurora Gore is employed as a hairstylist at the
7Mario Tricoci Hair Salon and Day Spa in Libertyville; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Aurora Gore initially began her training about two
9years ago because she wanted to compete in a triathlon; despite
10only having basic knowledge of swimming at the time, she soon
11discovered she really liked to swim and decided that, instead
12of a triathlon, she wanted to try to traverse the English
13Channel; under the guidance of her swim coach, Craig Strong,
14she spent 16 to 22 hours a week swimming in Lake Michigan and
15the pool to prepare her for the challenge; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Aurora Gore swam across the English Channel from
17Dover, England to the coast of France on September 23, 2011;
18she started her swim at about 7 A.M. and arrived at the coast
19of France near Calais at about 9 P.M., completing her voyage
20with a time of 14 hours and 10 minutes; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Through this fantastic achievement, Aurora Gore

1joins only about 1,000 people who have completed the crossing;
2in addition to achieving this great accomplishment, she also
3raised $500 in donations for the Kellogg Cancer Center in
4memory of her stepfather, who died from cancer in 2001; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Aurora Gore serves as a model of hard work,
6integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of
7Illinois; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
10we congratulate Aurora Gore on her accomplishment and wish her
11continued success and happiness in the future; and be it
12further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to Aurora Gore as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
