HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to recognize John Deere for attempting a
4world record at the John Deere Pavilion in Moline by
5constructing a full-sized sculpture of its new S-Series combine
6from more than 300,000 cans through John Deere's project, Can
7Do; and
 
8    WHEREAS, The sculpture is 60 feet wide, 80 feet long, and
916 feet tall and weighs nearly 170 tons; all 300,000 cans will
10be donated as much-needed supplies to Moline's River Bend
11Foodbank during the holiday season; and
 
12    WHEREAS, John Deere's project Can Do sculpture and food
13donation program are designed to raise awareness of the
14essential role of farmers and ranchers play in producing safe,
15healthy, and abundant food for a growing world population; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Because the global population is expected to
17increase from 7 billion to more than 9 billion by 2050, farmers
18will need to increase food production by 70%, while using the
19same amount of land, water, and other resources; and
 
20    WHEREAS, New technologies like the S-Series combine are
21important tools in helping farmers meet higher food demands;

2    WHEREAS, The new S-Series combine is manufactured at John
3Deere Harvester Works in East Moline; and
 
4    WHEREAS, The combine can sculpture will be a display at the
5John Deere Pavilion in downtown Moline through mid-December;
6therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
9we recognize John Deere for donating 300,000 cans this holiday
10season and raising awareness of the essential role of farmers
11in global food production; and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to John Deere as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
