SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Pastor Emeritus Warren C. Dorris, Sr. of
4Joliet, who passed away on December 27, 2010; and
 
5    WHEREAS, He was born on March 21, 1925 to Reggie and Ivory
6Dorris in Winona, Mississippi; and
 
7    WHEREAS, He was educated in the Winona Public School System
8and was a decorated World War II Veteran, earning a Purple
9Heart after being wounded in Belgium; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Pastor Dorris was employed by Caterpillar, Inc.
11for over 32 years; he was also one of the founding members of
12Prayer Tower Church of God in Christ; Pastor Dorris worked
13faithfully as a deacon, trustee, assistant pastor, and other
14positions for over 60 years; he loved his family and cherished
15family time and holidays; and
 
16    WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents, Reggie
17and Ivory Dorris; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Samuel
18and Martha Rimpson; his brothers, Joe Flint Dorris, L.C.
19Dorris, Sr., Willie D. Dorris, and Robert L. Dorris, Sr.; his
20sisters, Ellen Waldington and Ella Mae Waldington; his
21grandchildren, Michelle Alexander Garner, Montique Mays, and

1Satoria Spiva; his sons-in-law, Eddie Westmoreland and Charles
2Williams; his sisters-in law, Catherine Hobbs Dorris, Maudie
3McKenzie Dorris, Annie Rimpson Harrison, Lucille Rimpson
4Moore, Dora Meyers Rimpson, and Mattie Townsend Dorris; his
5brothers-in-law, Sammie Rimpson, Kale Rimpson, Lenard Rimpson,
6Nathan Rimpson, Eddie Luther Rimpson, Ulysses Moore, and Alfred
7Harrison; and his god-daughter, Kimberly Edmon; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Pastor Emeritus Warren C. Dorris, Sr. leaves to
9cherish his memory his loving wife of 65 years, Margaret; his
10daughters, Marie Dorris, Freida Kimble, Ruby Williams,
11Dolorita Mackins (Cecil), Ivory Crosby (Terry), and Sherry
12Westmoreland; his son, Pastor/Councilman Warren C. Dorris, Jr.
13(Rita); his grandchildren, Walter (Paula) Kimble, Samuel Mays,
14Yolanda Alexander, Tawana (Jerry) McCullum, Garland Mays,
15Nicole Kimble, Demmond (Tequilla) Dorris, LaCresha Alexander,
16Monica Wright, Andre Dorris, Shavahn (Alvin) Jefferson,
17Christopher Wright, Curtis Anthony Rodgers, Camille Wright,
18Erick Dorris, Justin (Natalie) Rodgers, Jennifer Spiva, Erica
19Tyus, and Brandon Mackins; his 38 great-grandchildren; his one
20great-great-grandson; his special nieces, Lucille Kyles and
21Mae Ruth Carr; his sisters-in law, Mattie Dorris, Jeffie
22Dorris, Virginia Hughes, Daisy Rimpson, and Debra Rimpson; his
23god-children, Jazerle Amos, Garrett and Gary Beene, Mera
24Warren-Gall, Joshua Edmon, and Andre Holder; his spiritual
25daughters, Meredith Beene, Elaine Conley, and Geneva Allen; his

1special friend, Billy Hamilton, Sr.; the entire Prayer Tower
2Church family; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and
3friends; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
5ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
6his family, friends, and congregation, the passing of Pastor
7Emeritus Warren C. Dorris, Sr.; and be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to the family of Pastor Emeritus Warren C. Dorris,
10Sr. as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
