SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of John Carter Burdon of Washington,
4Illinois and Charleston, South Carolina, who passed away on
5January 16, 2011; and
 
6    WHEREAS, John Burdon was born on July 27, 1923, in Low
7Point; his parents were Stephen Malcolm and Beulah Maecrete
8Banta Burdon; and
 
9    WHEREAS, John Burdon served his country as a physician in
10the United States Naval Reserve during World War II and the
11Korean Conflict; he served from 1942 to 1963, when he retired
12at the rank of lieutenant commander; and
 
13    WHEREAS, John Burdon attended Knox College from 1940 to
141943 and earned his medical degree in anesthesiology from the
15University of Illinois Medical School in 1946; and
 
16    WHEREAS, John Burdon was the second member in the group of
17nine physicians in the Associated Anesthesiologists Medical
18Group; and
 
19    WHEREAS, John Burdon enjoyed professional tennis, the
20Green Bay Packers, the American Ballet Theatre, and Broadway

1Theater; he joined the Greater Charleston Duplicate Bridge Club
2in 1996 and achieved the rank of Silver Life Master; he also
3enjoyed duplicate bridge, tournament bridge, club bridge,
4party bridge, and playing tennis; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Burdon was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal
6Cathedral in Peoria; and
 
7    WHEREAS, John Burdon was preceded in death by his parents
8and his niece, Jean Cameron Burdon; and
 
9    WHEREAS, John Burdon is survived by his brother, Stephen
10Banta Burdon; his niece, Katherine Ann Burdon; and his best
11friend, Lonnie Eugene Stewart; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
14his family and friends, the passing of John Carter Burdon; and
15be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of John Burdon as an expression of our
18sympathy.
