SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Nathalia Field Holland of Evanston, who
4passed away on January 6, 2011; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Nathalia Holland was born on February 18, 1908, in
6Omaha, Nebraska; her parents were Herbert H. and Margaret
7Larkin Field; she married William M. Holland in 1940; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Nathalia Holland had a long and distinguished
9career in journalism; at the age of 14, she began reporting for
10the Omaha World-Herald, where she covered events at Omaha's
11Central High School while she attended school there; she
12continued to pursue her love of writing in college, graduating
13with a journalism degree from the University of Nebraska in
141931; she was also active in the Gamma Phi Beta sorority; and
 
15    WHEREAS, After graduating from college, Nathalia Holland
16began a successful career at Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph
17Co., where she worked in the publicity department as an editor
18and copywriter; she quickly worked her way up to her position
19as an advertising copywriter and scriptwriter for the popular
20radio variety show "The Singing Philosopher" on radio station
21KFAB in Lincoln, Nebraska, where she wrote material for host
22Lyle DeMoss; she also did freelance advertising for the House

1of Bauer Chocolate Company and public relations for the Bauer
2Drug Store Company during this time; after getting married, she
3and her husband settled in Evanston, where they spent the rest
4of their lives; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Nathalia Holland was a member of the Nebraska
6Writers Guild and the First Presbyterian Church of Evanston;
7and
 
8    WHEREAS, Nathalia Holland was the wife of the late William
9M. Holland; the mother of Marsha F. and William W. Holland; the
10sister of the late Herbert H., Jr., Marshall E., and Bradley C.
11Field; the aunt of Bradley (Bernice) Field and Don (Barbara)
12Field; the great aunt of Curt (Launie), Lawrence, Nancy, Gary
13(Jennifer), Russell, James (Jean), and Peter Field and Hayley
14(Michael) Nunn; she is also survived by her long time
15caregiver, Maria (John) Pyrak; and her devoted friends, Nancy
16Crane, Judy Ide, and Lisa Russell; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
19her family and friends, the passing of Nathalia Field Holland;
20and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Nathalia Holland as an expression of
