SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of James L. Althoff Sr. of McHenry, who
4passed away on November 8, 2011; and
 
5    WHEREAS, James Althoff Sr. was born on June 9, 1928, in
6McHenry; he graduated from McHenry Community High School in
71946; he married Joan Andreen on June 18, 1949, at St. Mary's
8Catholic Church in McHenry; and
 
9    WHEREAS, James Althoff Sr. founded Althoff Industries
10(then Althoff Heating and Air) in 1962; the company, which only
11had 2 employees at its founding, grew into a business with
12about 150 employees today; under his guidance, the company
13became one of the largest mechanical contractors in the State;
14and
 
15    WHEREAS, James Althoff Sr. was a tireless community
16volunteer who served on the boards of many organizations; he
17was a member of the McHenry High School District 156 school
18board from 1967 to 1979 and the Illinois Board of Governors of
19Higher Education from 1980 to 1991; he was a volunteer fireman
20and then later served as the president of the McHenry Fire
21Protection District for more than 20 years; he was also a
22trustee of the Local 130 Plumbers Union, a board member of Home

1State Bank in Crystal Lake, and a former president of McHenry
2Country Club; and
 
3    WHEREAS, James Althoff Sr. was preceded in death by his
4son, Timothy, and his sisters, Betty Phelan and Ethel Conway
5Low; and
 
6    WHEREAS, James Althoff Sr. is survived by his wife, Joan;
7his children, Betsy (Tom) Les, Tod (Kim) Althoff, Catherine
8Althoff (Joel Galanty), Patricia (John) Siwicki, James, and
9Karyn (David) Roelke; his daughter-in-law, Illinois State
10Senator Pamela Althoff; his 13 grandchildren; his
11great-granddaughter; and his sister, Eleanor Wiater;
12therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
15his family and friends, the passing of James L. Althoff Sr.;
16and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of James Althoff Sr. as an expression
19of our sympathy.
