SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of John J. Zabukovec of Waukegan, who passed
4away on December 25, 2011; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Zabukovec was born on November 19, 1927, in
6Waukegan; his parents were John and Mary Zabukovec; and
 
7    WHEREAS, John Zabukovec graduated from Waukegan Township
8High School in 1945, where he was active in academics and
9athletics; he was a member of the "W" Club, History Club, and
10Senior Government; and
 
11    WHEREAS, John Zabukovec was the owner of the 922 Club and
12the Bel-View Lounge; he later worked for the Clerk of the
13Circuit Court, before he became a custodian with the Waukegan
14School District; after he retired from the school district, he
15worked at the Lake Bluff Golf Course, where he loved to serve
16coffee and provide advice to the golfers; and
 
17    WHEREAS, John Zabukovec was a member of the All Nations
18Bowling Tournament, the Moose Club, the AFU, and KSKJ/St.
19Joseph's Lodge 53; he was a member of Mother of God Church,
20where he and his wife co-chaired dinner dances for the church;
21more recently, he was a member of St. Dismas Parish; and

1    WHEREAS, John Zabukovec's love of sports began in early
2childhood; he served as the batboy for the Zabukovec All-Stars,
3his father's baseball team; he also enjoyed bowling, playing
4basketball, football, and softball, music, dancing, solving
5crossword puzzles, card tricks, and especially the Chicago
6Cubs; he was also well known as a Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune
7expert; and
 
8    WHEREAS, John Zabukovec was preceded in death by his
9father, John Zabukovec; his mother, Mary Zabukovec Chamernik;
10his step-father, John Chamernik; his father-in-law, Joseph
11Zalaznik; his sisters, Mildred Terchek and Alice Pasiewicz; and
12his brother-in-laws, Edward Pasiewicz and John Terchek; and
 
13    WHEREAS, John Zabukovec is survived by his loving wife,
14Jennie (Zalaznik) Zabukovec; his daughters, Jamie Zabukovec
15(Larry Thompson), Judy Derra, Janice (Richard) Davis, and Julie
16Zabukovec (Rob McKay); his grandchildren, Tesia Derra and
17Meredith and John Tanner Davis; his great-grandchildren,
18Adelina, Bekim, and Lule (Derra) Alijoski; his sister, Mary Ann
19(Albert) Gilbert; his brother-in-law, Fred (Marie) Zalaznik;
20his step-sister, Mary Alice (Edward) Morrissey; his nieces,
21nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, Joan (Bill) Marsh,
22Eddie (Gail) Pasiewicz, Geri Gilbert, Janet (Marty) Anderson,
23Larry (Debbie), Gerry, and John Zalaznik, Bill (Jeannie) Marsh,

1Theresa (John) Brouillard, and Michael, Lindy, Eric, Torie, and
2Alex Pasiewicz; and his many other relatives; therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
4ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
5his family and friends, the passing of John J. Zabukovec; and
6be it further
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8presented to the family of John Zabukovec as an expression of
9our sympathy.
